Salary: No remuneration – this is a voluntary position wit
Location: West Sussex
Job type: Permanent
Contact: Dave Williams
Category: Office Manager Jobs
REFERENCE: DW1423

LOCATION: Crawley, West Sussex

JOB TITLE: Trustee

SALARY & BENEFITS: No remuneration – this is a voluntary position with expenses and mileage covered

WORKING HOURS: An average of 15 to 20 hours per month and will include occasional weekend & evening meetings as well as attendance at events and away days, so a level of flexibility will be required.

THE ROLE & COMPANY: Are you looking to make a difference to people's lives. Do you have the energy, passion and ambition to be a Trustee? Then this could be the opportunity for you - St Catherine's Hospice are looking for Trustees to join their Board. No experience of hospice care is necessarily required and you do not have to have held a trustee role previously – knowledge you have gained from other sectors or roles may be just as useful, coupled with energy and enthusiasm. We are particularly interested to hear from people with a background and experience in Finance, Medical, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Human Resources (HR).

As a Trustee you are responsible for the governance of the charity. Ensuring that the values of the organisation are upheld, overseeing the formulation and regular review of the strategic aims of the charity. You will, alongside other Trustee's, Board and SMT members, support the charity in their aims and ensure that the group operates within the legal, financial and regulatory requirements of a charitable organisation, whilst continuing to strive to achieve best practices.

For the last 35 years, St Catherine’s Hospice has offered expert physical and emotional care to terminally ill local people and their families. Last year alone, they cared for around 2,100 people, and this is only possible thanks to the generosity of our amazing fundraisers and supporters. We are incredibly proud of this, but we know there is much more to do. Currently we are only able to reach one in every three people that need us.

As a Trustee you would be working with and supporting an organisation with an ambition that no one should face death and loss alone. To achieve this we need to significantly grow our income, develop our premises, attract and retain the best people, and expand our critical services. We are looking for dynamic individuals to join our volunteer Board of Trustees to help lead the way. You will be using your skills and experience to guide the direction of the charity through exciting times, securing the governance of the organisation, contributing to its strategic future and acting as an ambassador for all aspects of our work. This would be suitable for anyone with experience on a Board, or as a Trustee, but would also suit someone with Senior or Operations Management experience and someone who has good planning and organisational skills.

The successful Trustee can be sure that they will enjoy a solid induction and learn new skills as a member of our Board. As well as the satisfaction that you are helping people in your local community when they need it most. If you would like to know more, we are holding two Open Events as an opportunity to introduce you to our work, meet current Trustees and Hospice managers and to find out more about what is involved. You will just need to quickly register your interest in attending by clicking the 'apply' button. Please note the open days will be held at the Hospice on,

• Thursday 23rd January 2020, 6pm to 8pm
• Saturday 25th January 2020, 10am to 12pm

Should you not be able to attend either of these open days, or if applying following these dates, then we would still like to very much hear from you as further informal discussions can be arranged as selection hearings will not take place until Monday 9th March 2020.

This role is also subject to Enhanced with Adult Barred DBS check.

Also, if you would like to know more about becoming a Trustee and why this could be rewarding for you, search online for “The Twenty Minute Guide to being a Hospice Trustee”.

Does this sound like you or something you are interested in? If so, click the apply button where you will be redirected to register your interest in attending or provided with an application form to complete and return directly to the Employers.
