Senior Business Tax Manager - Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh, Hampshire

Salary: £55 - £60K depending on experience

Term: Full Time Permanent

The About the company:

A leading firm of Chartered Accountants and business and tax advisers in the region are looking for an additional dynamic tax specialist.


This role involves working with Directors and clients on tax planning assignments.This will include liaising with Directors and their clients to identify and provide tax planning solutions, and advising on and reviewing more complex corporation tax computations.

The ideal candidate:

• Prior experience in dealing with corporate and business tax matters, over a wide range of situations
• CTA qualified or equivalent
• A minimum of 5 years' practical experience
• Ideally worked in a medium sized firm's tax team with a varied responsibility
• Excellent communication skills essential, with the ability to engage with clients
• Able to work on their own quickly and effectively with limited guidance
• Able to take responsibility for own work and to provide correct and timely advice
• Organised and methodical approach to workload. Able to manage deadlines and prioritise competing demands on time
• Good IT skills. Prior knowledge of Iris Accountancy software an advantage
• Have good report and letter writing skills
• Provide pro-active advice internally and externally to promote tax planning opportunities and cross-selling opportunities
• Maintain knowledge and keep up to date with changes in tax legislation through professional reading, research and training courses
• Have good communication skills and be able to build a rapport and strong working relationships with clients, including over the telephone, video call and in person
• Work well in a team

Summary of Key Tasks:

• Providing general tax technical support and business tax advice both directly to clients and internally in response to requests from the firm's directors and staff
• Deliver tax planning advice and support directly to clients
• Assisting the Directors and Associate Directors with tax planning assignments
• Carry out Corporation Tax reviews for all audit clients and other large corporate cases
• Assist with R&D tax relief claims for clients
• Provide internal assistance with Capital Allowances reviews
• Advise on remuneration planning matters and choice of business structure
• Undertake business health checks (employment status, PAYE, CIS, VAT, etc.)
• Maintain knowledge of relevant tax issues across the spectrum of taxes, with particular emphasis on business tax and the specialisms listed below
• Dealing with HMRC Enquiries
• Support the Personal Tax Compliance Manager with technical assistance. This personal tax work will only include technical advice and assistance to the department, but will not involve management of a portfolio of Tax Return cases.
• Promote tax planning opportunitiesand cross-selling opportunities internally and externally
• Initiate tax-based marketing initiatives as opportunities arise, including new client work
• Provide internal tax technical updates to the Directors and Business Advisors
• Liaise with clients, potential clients and third parties in a professional manner at all times
• Work with members of the tax planning team to ensure work for Directors is being completed by deadlines set
• All other tasks as required by the directors

Typical assignments could include:-

• Remuneration planning advice
• Dealing with HMRC corporation tax enquiries, including negotiating final settlement with HMRC
• Property portfolio tax issues
• Succession planning advice
• Advising on the benefits of claiming R&D and working with clients to review possible claims
• Providing technical support and solutions to queries from the Directors in connection with their clients

Salary and Benefits:

• Salary: £55 - £60K depending on experience.
• 25 days holiday
• 4% pension if the employee contributes 5% too
• Life Assurance and PMI after 2 years employment.
