An exciting opportunity is now available for a Procurement Manager to join a unique company based in Stevenage. Working in the global defence industry, the company currently has 10,000 employees across their UK and European offices and are now looking to increase their headcount by 5% in 2018.

Major Equipment Procurement is responsible for procuring all complex subcontract equipment and services which are designed and or adapted by the supplier to meet the bespoke needs of the business.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Implementing strategies associated with the sub-contract(s) to deliver maximum business advantage in line with business plans, in the high value/ high risk and complex political environment
  • Managing Business Relationships with Suppliers of highly complex equipment and in long-term relationships including implementing Supplier Relationship Management techniques
  • Monitoring the health of the Supplier and identifying risks associated with the supplier
  • Managing the major supplier related aspects of the business winning process associated with one or more major suppliers being accountable for drafting and negotiation of complex RFQ's, sub-contracts, contract amendments and other industrial agreements
  • Ensuring the Sub-contractor delivers to programme in line with project requirements within authorised budgets and technical requirements
  • Ensuring the Sub-contractor performs in accordance with their contractual obligations
  • Supporting cost reduction activities, undertaking risk management and change management within the delivery team to maximise commercial benefit to the company
  • Forecasting cash payments in order that the company business plans are achieved
  • Running supplier meetings including regular progress reviews to ensure contract performance and understand status of sub contracts
  • Occasional management of one or two team members to ensure they are effectively directed at achievement of company and project objectives

What we are looking for:

  • Competent and experienced Procurement Specialist, with a proven track record in improving supplier's performance, building excellent relationships, securing cost savings and ensuring suppliers deliver to time, to cost and to quality through established procurement best practice
  • Enthusiastic, proactive and adaptable individual able to deal with complex situations and effectively influence senior stakeholders
  • Competent contract negotiator with ability to draft contract agreements and approve terms and conditions to maximise the benefit to the company
  • A natural communicator, able to build strong relationships, with experience in driving multi-functional teams and delivering to tight time-scales
  • Strong relationship management and negotiation skills with the ability to lead and influence key stakeholders and suppliers
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office IT packages (SAP, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
