About the role

The Lookers Group payroll function is seeking to strengthen its team with the appointment of a HR and Payroll systems developer.

This is a key position and the successful candidate will play a crucial role in the development of Group's HR and payroll systems. In particular they will be responsible for ensuring that information flow both into and out of the payroll and HR systems is as required by the Group Payroll and HR functions. They will act as a central point of contact for technical queries and problems for the payroll and HR systems.

The successful candidate is expected to ensure that systems are correctly documented and the knowledge is appropriately shared within the Payroll, HR and Business Intelligence teams

In addition, the candidate will play a part in the Group's newly formed Business Intelligence team, being the key player in the development of Group BI reports that involve payroll and HR data.

What you will do

Reporting initially to the Head of Group Reporting and working closely with the Group Payroll Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Maintain, support and amend where necessary the spreadsheets used to upload data to the third party payroll and HR systems and to bring Group wide consistency to those systems.

Develop processes that enable payroll to produce costing and other accounting reports; maximising the payroll system's reporting capabilities and minimising the use of Excel.

Be a central internal point of contact regarding queries and issues for the Group's chosen payroll and HR system. This will include:

· Configuration changes

· Granting and revoking of user permissions

· Initial investigation of raised queries

· Ensure communications team aware of planned system outages

· Provide quarterly reports on incidents raised with third party support

Be a point of contact for that third party system supplier for the following matters:

· System support

· Upgrades (statutory and feature-based)

· Ensure regular communication with/attendance at third supplier events to ensure Lookers is fully conversant with the opportunities that may become available

· Introduction of additional modules/functionality

Become a part of the Business Intelligence team and in particular be the payroll and HR database 'expert' and thereby support the design of payroll and HR business intelligence systems.

You will ensure that systems are appropriately documented and knowledge share to the relevant colleagues with the Business Intelligence and Payroll team

What we are looking for:

This role is ideally suited to a developer with advanced Excel and in particular visual basic

Knowledge of SQL or other similar reporting / query tool is essential.

Prior knowledge of a payroll department is highly beneficial. In particular you should have the experience of hitting payroll deadlines.

Excellent communication skills are essential. The successful candidate will need to ensure that the Group Payroll and Business Intelligence teams are fully apprised of issues and developments. In addition the candidate should be aware that whilst the primary place of work will be Newcastle, you will be expected to travel to Manchester regularly, particularly during the time that payroll is prepared.

The skills and desire to drive improvement in systems and processes
