Assistant Accountant - Cookstown, Northern Ireland

Salary: £28,000.00 - £35,000.00 per year

The Company

Our client is a multi-disciplinary design, engineering and construction business operating in the power and environmental sectors delivering innovative, sustainable and quality solutions for public and private sector clients in these markets. They have experienced and skilled engineering teams that work in partnership with their clients and related stakeholders from an optioneering stage through the cycle of design, construction, commissioning, training and handover to the aftercare of asset operation and maintenance.

The Role

• Preparing financial documents such as invoices, bills, and accounts payable and receivable
• Completing purchase orders
• Managing payroll
• Completing financial reports on a regular basis and providing information to the finance team
• Assisting with budgets
• Completing bank reconciliations
• Entering financial information into appropriate software programs
• Managing company ledgers
• Processing business expenses
• Coordinating internal and external audits
• Verifying balances in account books and rectifying discrepancies
• Verifying bank deposits
• Managing day-to-day transactions
• Recording office expenditures and ensuring these expenses are within the set budget
• Assisting the finance department and senior accounting staff members with various tasks, including preparing budgets, records, and statements
• Posting daily receipts
• Preparing annual budgets
• Completing the year-end analysis
• Reporting on debtors and creditors
• Handling accruals and prepayments
• Managing monthly budgeting tasks
• Encoding accounting entries for data processing
• Sorting financial documents and posting them to the proper accounts
• Reviewing computer reports for accuracy and meticulously tracing errors back to their source
• Resolving errors in financial reports and correcting faulty reporting methods


Role Responsibilities:

-Preparation of Purchase orders and distribution for authorisation

-Purchase invoice processing and distribution for authorisation. Filing of invoices and dealing with any queries or missing invoices

-Supplier statement reconciliations

-Credit card - any proforma payments and uploading of statements via uploader

-Month end supplier payment run

-Sales invoice processing and emailing of invoices to customers

-Maintaining stock list ensuring all sales/purchases invoices are stock coded

-Credit control/debt management

-Maintaining services spreadsheet and making service calls

-Payroll weekly processing with payment of any expenses and pension submission

-Bank reconciliation

-Banking - lodgements of cheques

-Month end balance sheet recs

-PAYE reconciliation, submission and payment

-Submission of quarterly VAT return

-Answering/diverting phones and any overflow when necessary

-Any other ad hoc duties as required

-Person Specification

Essential Skills & Requirements:

A minimum of 2 years experience within industry essential.

Qualified/Part-qualified accounting qualification preferred.

Strong commercial and business acumen.

Computer literate.

Knowledge and understanding of accounting software, preferably Exchequer

Good communication and interpersonal skills, together with a proactive and positive approach.

Able to take ownership and responsibility for own work with an eagerness to take on further responsibility/development.

Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to deliver specified outputs.

Able to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and maintain a high standard of work.

A driving licence.
