We are now at a time where business is more global than ever and people who have mastered more than one language have become prized assets within certain companies. Bilingual workers are more and more important and they can cover a wide spectrum of roles including sales, IT and telecoms, marketing and PR, although the majority of bilingual jobs out there are in admin, secretarial and customer services roles. If you are bilingual then there are plenty of options out there and if you can specialise in any of the aforementioned roles then you are even more employable. Another very common bilingual job is a translator. Translators are required to convert written material from one or more ‘source languages’ into the ‘target language’, whilst ensuring that the translated version conveys the meaning of the original as clearly as possible. To do any type of bilingual job you will be required to have an excellent command of at least two languages. As a translator you could be required to work on scientific, technical, commercial and literary subjects and you may even be required to work with legal and educational documents. You would also be required to carry out the required research to a high standard, whilst also being able to prioritise your time to meet deadlines. If you are working as a bilingual customer service representative then you should be able to cope with dealing with complaints and speaking for long periods of time in certain languages. You would also be required to work well within a team and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
