The job centres on support for an office or department, and responsibilities including data entry, document management, typing letters, managing diaries, looking after visitors, answering the phone and providing switchboard cover.
Efficiency may just be the most important part of admin work. You will need to be able to organise your time well while dealing with extra requests from your colleagues. Employers also look for general people skills, good typing skills and computer literacy, along with being a good team worker who can show initiative. Most admin jobs have extremely sociable working hours - 9 to five, Monday to Friday.
